Elizabeth “Liz” Reimers, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska, passed away on October 27, 2026, in Omaha at the age of 87.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church. There will be a vigil service at 4:00 p.m. Monday at the church with the Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard presenting honors followed by visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Burial is in All Saints Cemetery in Columbus, Nebraska. McKown Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Liz was born on August 27, 1939, in West Point, Nebraska to Francis and Margaret (Stratman) Stieren. She received her education at Guardian Angels Catholic High School and went on to attend St. Catherine School of Nursing, preparing for a life of devoted service to others.
On July 15, 1961, Liz was united in marriage to Larry Reimers at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, Nebraska. The couple spent a few years in Butte and Grand Island before moving to Columbus in 1967, where they made their home and raised their family.
Liz spent 35 years working as a night nurse, a calling that reflected both her strength and her compassion. Through long hours and quiet overnight care, Liz offered comfort, skill, and steady reassurance to those who needed it most. Her work stood as a lasting expression of dedication and kindness, and it will be remembered with gratitude by all whose lives were touched by her care.
Liz was a faithful member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, where she regularly attended Mass and was a member of Christian Mothers. She also enjoyed Quilting and embroidery, a skill that requires attention to detail and patience. Some would say she mastered it based on the beautiful works of art she crafted. Liz also enjoyed playing a competitive game of Bridge … and occasionally letting her friends and family beat her just so they would continue to play with her in the future.
Family and friends will remember Liz with love and appreciation, honoring a life marked by commitment, warmth, and faithful service.
