Indian Health Services announced today in a news release that 15.3 million dollars has been awarded for staff quarters projects in several Native American communities. Of that amount, the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska will receive 977 thousand dollars, the Omaha Tribe will receive 757 thousand dollars. The Santee Sioux Nation, also part of that effort, will be the recipient of 2 million 386 thousand dollars. Other native nations receiving funds include California and Alaska based native tribes. Development of staff quarters at the health centers is needed due to shortages of housing – which can be a deterrent in hiring medical staff.
