In a story last week, which aired here on KTIC and several media sources, and originated with federal agencies, a human trafficking operation was uncovered at Winnebago, in which multiple people were arrested and an adult female was recovered from the scene and provided needed support services. The Winnebago Tribal Council in a news release today says some of that information may not give the full story. The Tribal Council says the investigation of human trafficking was centered on the WinneVegas Casino in Sloan, Iowa, but later investigators modified the plan to make contact with subjects in the Village of Winnebago, those subjects were apprehended at a location away from residential areas to insure safety. Of the suspects, no tribal members were involved, those suspects were from outside the community. The Tribal Council says the Winnebago Tribal Police Department and the law enforcement partners work proactively to keep the area safe. The council encourages anyone knowing of criminal activity to contact the Winnebago Police Department.
