Darlene Diana Abendroth was born on the family farm by Bancroft, NE on March 13, 1928 to Paul F. and Violet (Sila) Abendroth. She grew up on the farm and attended District 62 school, graduating from the 8th grade on May 23, 1942. Darlene was baptized on June 3, 1928 and professed her faith in our Lord Jesus Christ on March 25, 1945. She was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in West Point.

Darlene married Harold R. Brummund at Grace Lutheran Church on August 29, 1948. To this union two children were born, Stanley Harold (1952) and Sharon Mae (1953).
