Jean Reeson Baumert, 73, of West Point, died Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at CHI Health – Bergan Mercy in Omaha. Funeral Mass will be 10:30am on Wednesday, July 22 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point with Rev. Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery with lunch following at the GACC Cafeteria. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with a Vigil Service at 7:00pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to Guardian Angels Catholic School Endowment or West Point Public School Foundation. Arrangements by Stokely Funeral Home.
Jean was born on July 21, 1952 in LaPorte, Indiana to John and Gloria Miller. She spent much of her childhood in Michigan, before moving to Omaha, Nebraska in junior high school. She attended Westside High School and graduated in 1970.
The following fall Jean attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Shortly into her freshman year, she met her future husband on a blind date to the State Fair. On August 5, 1972, Jean married the love of her life, Donald Reeson. Together they built a loving home and raised their three children, sharing twenty-two wonderful years of marriage until Donald’s passing on October 6, 1994. Jean met life’s challenges with quiet strength, grace, and an unwavering devotion to her children. On August 5, 2005, Jean married Richard Baumert, with whom she shared many happy years filled with companionship, laughter, and the blessings of family.
Jean was a lifelong educator. After her marriage, she finished her elementary teaching degree at Wayne State College. She owned and operated Kiddie Korner Preschool, was the sole teacher at District 19 and later, District 22 one room schoolhouses, and taught for over twenty years at West Point Public Schools before retiring in 2016. Throughout her career, she touched the lives of countless children and families with her kindness and dedication.
Jean loved everything that included family. Whether it was attending more pig shows than she could count, lazy days at the cabin, watching her children and grandchildren participate in their activities, girls’ days at the theater, or holiday gatherings, Jean loved to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She never needed to be the life of the party. She just loved to sit and listen to everyone. She enjoyed reading, gardening, listening to musical theater, playing with her puppies, and was always ready to play cards, especially epic games of Russian Rummy.
Jean is survived by her three children: Son, Kevan (Laura) Reeson and their children, Cooper, Avery, and Quinn; Daughter, Megan (Scott) Kvols and their children, Olivia, Isabella, and Andrew; Daughter, Kate (Bill) Hagemann and their children, Brynn, Josie, Eisley, and Bodie; Husband, Richard Baumert and his two children, Melissa Frigaard and daughter Wren, Timothy (Cassie) Baumert and their daughters Ellie, Grace and Hope; Stepbrothers Ron and Mark Samuelson and Stepsister Amy Bielewicz.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Reeson; Mother, Gloria Samuelson and step-father, Dale; Father, John Miller and stepmother, Gladys; Sister, Margaret Meister; Stepsister, Laura Halbert.
