Nebraska Rodeo Update: Athletes Earn National, Weekend Rodeo Wins


Nebraska rodeo athletes wrapped up another busy week with the conclusion of the National Junior High Finals Rodeo and strong performances at rodeos in Wisner, Clearwater, Seven Valleys and Bertrand.

At the National Junior High Finals Rodeo, Nebraska competitors earned several top-20 average finishes, highlighted by Truett McIntyre of Grand Island and Gavin Connell of Thedford, who captured the national championship in junior high team roping.

Trey Barnett of Elm Creek finished fourth in the boys goat tying average, while Bentley Barnett of Elm Creek placed fourth in the girls breakaway average. Quinton Boeser of Broken Bow finished eighth in junior high saddle bronc riding, and Trig Boeser of North Platte placed 11th in bull riding.

At the Seven Valleys Rodeo, Dawson Doggett won steer wrestling, Morgan Kessler claimed breakaway roping, Kylie Kanngiesser topped the barrel racing and Levi Haines won bull riding.

Wisner Rodeo winners included Chase Haake in steer wrestling, Chance Barnes in tie-down roping, Clay Bauer and Lane Kennedy in team roping, Hailey Witte in barrel racing and Sutton Schrunk, who won both saddle bronc riding and bull riding.

At the Clearwater Rodeo, Beau Wiebelhaus won steer wrestling, Oakley Ward claimed breakaway roping, Dori Hollenbeck won barrel racing and Tanner Drueke led the bareback riding.

In Bertrand, Trevor Cox and Dawson Doggett shared the steer wrestling title, Bailey Lester and Shawnee Sherwood tied for the breakaway win, Brittni Bradley won barrel racing and Levi Haines added another bull riding victory.

Nebraska rodeo action continues across the state as the summer season rolls on.
