The cause of a two-alarm hotel fire in Lincoln Monday has been determined to be an improperly discarded cigarette, according to Lincoln Fire and Rescue.
A passerby called 911 after noticing a small fire on the exterior of the building, and Lincoln Fire and Rescue responded around 6:50PM to the Fairfield Inn and Suites by Mariott near 27th and Superior.
The hotel is a total loss, as the roof collapsed, alongside ceilings in the building. The building was valued at $7 million, not including building furniture and contents.
About 30 rooms were reserved at the hotel. No injuries were reported among firefighters or guests.
