Two Nebraska cattle industry leaders have been appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Thursday.
Jaslyn Livingston of Broadwater and Jim Dinklage of Orchard were among 42 producers and industry representatives appointed by USDA to serve on the national board, which oversees programs funded through the federal beef checkoff.
Livingston and Dinklage are among 39 appointed members selected to serve three-year terms beginning in May.
The Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board helps direct investments in beef promotion, consumer education, research and market development programs funded by the $1-per-head federal beef checkoff assessment. The board works in conjunction with the Cattlemen’s Beef Board to oversee national efforts aimed at increasing beef demand in domestic and international markets.
USDA announced appointments from 25 states, along with representatives from importer, Northwest and Southwest geographic units.
The appointments are part of USDA’s ongoing oversight of industry-funded research and promotion boards. Since 1966, Congress has authorized commodity checkoff programs that allow agricultural producers to pool resources for research, promotion and market development efforts.
