The Nebraska High School Rodeo Association made stops in Atkinson and Valentine for the penultimate weekend of the regular season, and Nebraska Junior High Rodeo athletes punched their tickets to nationals this weekend.
In Atkinson, Allyx Forre was the girls all-around leader, picking up wins in breakaway roping and goat tying. Her all-around score was 451.45 points. Grady Gorwill won the boys all-around with a score of 298.45 points and a first-place finish in saddle bronc riding. Cotter Johnston won steer wrestling with a time of 5.44.
Johnston followed that performance with another first-place finish in steer wrestling in Valentine. He also secured the boys all-around title with a score of 311.20 points. Maci Herrington won pole bending and barrel racing, earning her a total score of 421.95 points and the girls all-around title.
Nebraska Junior High Rodeo results were also announced this weekend, with top athletes qualifying for the National Junior High Finals Rodeo. Bentley Barnett qualified in girls goat tying and girls breakaway, placing first in both. Truett McIntyre and Brecken Cover placed first in Ribbon Roping. McIntyre also qualified individually in tie down roping and boys goat tying, while Cover placed second in girls breakaway. McIntyre also qualified in the team roping competition with his partner, Gavin Connell.
