Area Rodeo Athletes Compete at Atkinson and Valentine Stops of Nebraska High School Rodeo Season


Nebraska high school rodeo competitors were in action over the Memorial Day weekend with performances on Friday, May 22, in Atkinson and Saturday, May 23, in Valentine. Athletes competed across a full slate of rodeo events, including rough stock, timed events, cutting, shooting sports, and all-around standings.

Several contestants turned in standout weekends competing across multiple events. Maci Herrington captured both barrel racing and pole bending titles in Valentine after placing in the top 10 multiple times in Atkinson. Allyx Forre dominated Atkinson competition, earning the girls’ all-around championship, while Cotter Johnston and Grady Gorwill each put together strong weekends in the boys’ divisions.

The 2026 season will make stops in Bridgeport on Friday, the 29th, and Harrison on Saturday, the 30th.
