Work will begin on I-129 near South Sioux City

May 26, 2026 (Norfolk, Neb.) — Weather permitting, work will begin June 1st on Interstate 129 (I-129) south of South Sioux City, according to the Nebraska Department of Transportation. Watts Electric, of Waverly, is the prime contractor. Work includes removing existing high-mast lighting towers and installing a new lighting system at the I-129/75 (reference point 0.39) and I-129/Dakota Avenue (reference point 1.50) interchanges. The project will be constructed under traffic with lane closures controlled by appropriate traffic control devices and practices. The project is expected to be completed late this fall. Motorists are reminded to drive cautiously in and near work zones, to buckle up, and put phones down.
