Republican Congressman Mike Flood won reelection in Nebraska’s 1st Congressional District, defeating Democratic challenger Chris Backemeyer in a closely watched race. Flood received 50% of the vote, compared with 46% for Backemeyer, securing another term representing eastern Nebraska in the U.S. House. The district, which includes Lincoln and surrounding communities, was considered competitive as Democrats targeted several Republican-held seats across the country.
Throughout the campaign, Flood emphasized issues including inflation, federal spending, border security, and support for Nebraska agriculture and small businesses. Backemeyer focused on protecting abortion rights, lowering health care costs, and expanding economic opportunities for working families. The race highlighted many of the national issues dividing voters, but Flood’s advantage among Republican and independent voters proved enough to hold the district and send him back to Congress for another term.
