NEBRASKA — Nebraska State Rodeo Association competitors stayed busy during the first two weekends of August, with rodeos in Harrison, Arthur and Hyannis, along with several steer roping competitions.
At the Harrison rodeo Aug. 1-2, Gus Cross led steer wrestling with a time of 5.8 seconds to earn $533.62. Jaycee Lambert won breakaway roping in 3.0 seconds, while Monte Bailey posted a 75-point ride to take saddle bronc.
Bernie Girard topped tie-down roping in 9.0 seconds, and Colten Miller won ranch broncs with a score of 73.
In team roping, Jay Teichert and Tom Hughson posted an 8.1-second run to finish first, earning $586.67 each. Annie Moore won barrel racing in 18.00 seconds. There were no entries in bareback or bull riding.
Steer roping competition at Johnstown also featured several strong performances. Clete Scheer won the three-round average with a combined time of 42.6 seconds, earning $351.55. Scheer also won the second round in 14.6 seconds and placed in both the first and third rounds. Chris Pearson finished second in the average at 50.0 seconds.
At Arthur on Aug. 8, Cooper Walker won bareback with a 68-point ride, while Kaden Wooters posted a 5.0-second run to win steer wrestling.
Abby Muck turned in a 2.8-second run to capture breakaway roping, and Grady Gorwill won saddle bronc with 69 points and a payout of $1,253.80.
J.T. Bradley led tie-down roping in 13.5 seconds, while Chad Connelly scored 71 points to win ranch broncs.
Cooper Brott and Cole Sherwood won team roping with a time of 5.3 seconds, earning $862.62 apiece. Sydney Graff and David Hinman captured mixed team roping in 7.3 seconds, while Carrie Hecht won barrel racing with an 18.04-second run.
Competition continued Aug. 9 in Hyannis, where Cody Angland won bareback with 71 points, and Kaden Wooters picked up another steer wrestling victory, this time with a 5.6-second run.
Kaycee Barnes led a competitive breakaway field with a time of 2.7 seconds and earned $944.78. Monte Bailey scored 75 points to win saddle bronc, while Joel Contreras took tie-down roping in 9.8 seconds.
Braden Abbott won ranch broncs with a score of 71. Matt Sherwood and Steve Sherwood posted a 6.3-second run to win team roping, while Georgie Lage and Cody Merritt won mixed team roping in 7.3 seconds.
Kashley Fornstrom finished first in barrel racing at 18.12 seconds. No qualified rides were recorded in bull riding.
Hyannis also hosted steer roping competition. Quinten Taylor won the opening round in 12.3 seconds, while Ora Taton took both the second and third rounds with matching 13.4-second runs. Daine McNenny won the average with a total time of 46.1 seconds, earning $535.10.
In the Mick Knott Memorial Steer Roping, Ora Taton won the first round in 12.0 seconds, Sage Dierks captured the second in 14.0, and Cody Taton won the third with an 11.5-second run. Jate Saults took the average title with a combined time of 47.6 seconds, earning $565.10.
All results remain unofficial until approval by the Nebraska State Rodeo Association secretary.
