Funeral services for Alice Nitzsche age 101 of West Point, NE will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the Beemer Mennonite Church in Beemer, NE with interment in the Beemer Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Beemer American Legion Hall. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service, both at the church. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is assisting the family with the arrangements. The service will be livestreamed on the Minnick Funeral Service, Inc Facebook page.
Alice Elizabeth Birky was born on March 14, 1925, to Jonas & Elizabeth (Schantz) Birky in their home on a farm near Kouts, Indiana. She trusted Jesus at a young age and wanted others to know her Savior. She graduated from Kouts high school in 1943. After her high school days, she found employment in McGill’s Manufacturing Company in Valparaiso, Indiana, for thirteen years in the payroll department. She then moved to Eureka, Illinois, to work in the office in Maple Lawn Homes, a nursing home.
When returning back to Indiana from a Schantz reunion in Beemer, she told her parents she likes Nebraska but would never want to live there! But years later, she was united in marriage to Delmar Nitzsche from West Point, Nebraska, on July 28, 1962, when she became a loving wife and mother to his five children. And in 1965, twin girls were added to their family. They lived on a farm northeast of West Point, until moving into the town of West Point in 1979. She became an active member of the Beemer Mennonite Church.
After her husband passed away in July of 2022, she continued to reside in their home until February 2023 when she moved into St. Joe’s Retirement Center, where she continued to share the love of Jesus by her example with her caregivers and the other residents.
At the age of 101, Jesus called Alice to her heavenly home Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Franciscan Healthcare, West Point, Nebraska.
