A two-vehicle accident between West Point and Beemer on Highway 275 sent one driver to the hospital after colliding with a semitruck on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a release from the Cuming County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 3:47pm, Cuming County Dispatch received a call in reference to a semi and pickup accident on Highway 275 near Cottonwood Chimes.
Responding personnel found the accident on Highway 275 between 14 Rd. and L Rd.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Vehicle #1, a 2018 Nissan Titan being driven by 34-year-old Ricardo De La Fuente Urquiza, was eastbound on Highway 275 and failed to maintain the lane of travel.
Vehicle #2 was a 2014 Peterbilt semitruck pulling a black Side Dump trailer being driven by 53-year-old David Dwane Paul of Sioux City, Iowa.
Vehicle #2 was westbound on Highway 275 in approximately the same location as vehicle #1.
Scene evidence showed that Vehicle #2 attempted to miss Vehicle #1 and swerved towards the north ditch of Highway 275.
Vehicle #1 struck Vehicle #2 in a side swipe collision, causing damage to both vehicles.
Vehicle #1 came to final rest on Highway 275 and Vehicle #2 came to rest in the north ditch of Highway 275.
Witnesses reported that Vehicle #1 was unable to maintain lane of travel and was in the westbound lane while traveling east.
De La Fuente Urquiza was transported by ambulance to Franciscan Healthcare in West Point.
Paul was uninjured.
The Cuming County Sheriff’s Office along with Beemer Fire and Rescue responded to the scene.
