Nebraska Rodeo Update: Nebraska rodeo competitors post strong results at CNFR, Junior High Finals and pro stops 


Nebraska rodeo competitors stayed busy this week with action spanning the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR), the National Junior High Finals Rodeo and multiple professional rodeos, while additional Nebraska athletes picked up wins at stops in Overton and at the Buffalo Bill Rodeo. 

At the CNFR, Nebraska-area college athletes posted several top-10 finishes. Wyatt Davis of Mid-Plains Community College placed fourth in Round 1 of bull riding with a 79-point ride, while teammate Trace Scarlavai matched that finish in Round 2 with another 79. In steer wrestling, Kaden Haake of Southeast Community College placed ninth in Round 2 with a 4.8-second run, and Dawson Doggett was seventh in Round 3 with a 5.1. 

In timed events, Emma Ohm of Black Hills State tied for first in Round 1 of breakaway roping with a 2.1, while Laynee Ohm of Mid-Plains Community College tied for seventh in Round 2 of goat tying with a 6.3. 

At the National Junior High Finals Rodeo as of Wednesday morning, Nebraska youth competitors also turned in strong performances. Treven Barnett of Elm Creek won Performance 6 in boys goat tying with a 9.35, while Caleb Riha of Stuart placed second in the same performance with a 9.6. Trig Boeser of North Platte won Performance 7 in bull riding with a 67-point ride. 

In girls events, Talon Scheer of Valentine won Performance 3 in breakaway roping with a 2.45, and Bentley Barnett of Elm Creek won Performance 3 in goat tying with a 7.95. Lyla Reardon of Bayard also added a Performance 5 win in goat tying with an 8.23. 

At the Overton Rodeo, Chase Haake won steer wrestling in 13.5 seconds, while Koltdyn Heath topped bareback riding with an 81. Savannah David won breakaway roping in 2.1 seconds, and Brady Painter claimed bull riding with an 85. 

At the Buffalo Bill Rodeo, Garrett Shadbolt won bareback riding with an 87.5-point ride, while Gage Davis won Round 1 of steer wrestling in 4.8 seconds and Austin Hurlburt won Round 2 of tie-down roping in 10.5.
