On Wednesday around 2:30 p.m., Norfolk Police officers were dispatched to the area of Center Drive and Michigan Avenue following a report of a welfare check involving a woman pushing a shopping cart full of items in the roadway. The shopping cart matched Walmart’s carts. Officers located the individual in the 1100 block of West Michigan Avenue and identified her as 35-year-old Keriann Denney of Norfolk. During the investigation, Denney claimed that the merchandise had been purchased by a relative and denied entering the store. A review of Walmart surveillance footage later showed Denney inside the store selecting merchandise and leaving with a shopping cart full of items without paying. The stolen merchandise was valued at $647.64, and the shopping cart was valued at $124, bringing the total loss to $771.64. Denney was arrested for theft by shoplifting, second or subsequent offense. She was booked into the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail. Denney was also cited for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
