Kathleen “Kay” Adamy, 99, of David City, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026 at St. Joseph’s Villa in David City.
Visitation will be from 9-10am, Friday, June 26th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by a Rosary at 10am. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am on June 26th after the Rosary. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s and St. Peter’s (Marietta) Catholic Cemetery with lunch following at the Marietta Hall. Memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Aquinas Catholic Schools or to Masses.

Kathleen M. Hoffman was born on October 28, 1926 to Mike and Ann Hoffman in Octavia, NE, and later relocated to David City, NE. She graduated from David City High School after which she attended nurses training in Lincoln, NE and became a Registered Nurse and Cadet Nurse. She spent several years serving her local community at the David City Hospital and was well known for her caretaking abilities for both her children and grandchildren to come. In fact, her nursing abilities were so exceptional, she prevented a surgeon from unnecessarily removing one Mike’s right foot in the operating room, a story many are familiar with, and a former patient once even gifted her children a pony after receiving her lifesaving care.
In the spring of 1948, Kay and Leonard Adamy were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in David City, NE. Out of this love, Kay and Len raised their children on a farm outside of Bellwood, Nebraska. No matter which one of them was working, be it Kay at the hospital or Len in the fields, one of them was always home to look after the kids, playing a major role in their lives and being outstanding parents and ultimately grandparents.
Kay adapted early on to motherhood, honing her skills with the aid of Leonard’s Mother, Julia. Over the years, she dedicated time to several of life’s callings, perfecting daunting recipes in the kitchen was one of them — recipes that friends and family have attempted to replicate with minimal success. Her ginger snap cookies still retain a trade secret to this day, may the Lord help whoever is brave enough to try and recreate the consistency of those one-of-a-kind delicacies. All in all, Kay made a warm and inviting home — her hospitality and the enjoyable times that were a staple of the Adamy household are still remembered and often talked about today.
Above all, Kay was a woman of faith and devotion. She was deeply committed to her church and community and served them for nearly a century. The unconditional loving treatment of her family, friends, and all those she came in contact with is what many will, and shall remember her for. The Lord has called one of his truest servants home, and for that, we mustn’t be selfish, we shall rejoice that we have one more guardian angel protecting us.
She is survived by her son: Mike(Roberta) Adamy of Bellwood: daughter: Rosemary Bridge of Omaha; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild and nieces and nephews. Her life will be celebrated for years to come by those who knew her and loved her best.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband: Len in 1992; parents: Mike and Ann Hoffman; daughter Kathy, and son Timothy.
