NEBRASKA — As severe weather and wildfires continue to impact parts of Nebraska, the Nebraska Department of Transportation is reminding travelers to check Nebraska 511 before heading out.
Jay Omar, Communications and Public Policy Director for NDOT, says Nebraska 511 provides real-time information on road conditions, closures, construction, traffic cameras, and other travel impacts across the state.
Nebraska 511 is available online at 511.nebraska.gov and can also be downloaded through the Apple App Store or Google Play.
For areas affected by flooding and wildfires, travelers can use Nebraska 511 to check for road closures and find alternate routes before beginning their trip. NDOT also encourages drivers to use the app’s “Tell Me” feature, which provides hands-free voice notifications about traffic incidents, road conditions, closures, and other travel impacts along a driver’s route.
NDOT is also reminding motorists to slow down and move over for vehicles, first responders, and crews working along the side of the road. Drivers are also encouraged to buckle up, put their phones down, and stay focused behind the wheel to help keep themselves and others safe.
