Grand Island based Bosselman Pump & Pantry is expanding its footprint, with the acquisition of 21 locations across the Midwest currently operated by Hy-Vee.
The Nebraska chain will add 21 Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh standalone stores including in Iowa and Minnesota. The agreement also adds five in-store Starbucks and seven in-store Smokey Row coffee shops—marking Pump & Pantry’s next major step in their strategic growth plans. The acquisition is expected to close in July 2026.
- The agreement includes 15 locations in the Des Moines metro, two in Davenport, Iowa, one in Marion, Iowa, two in the Omaha metro, and one in Lakeville, Minnesota. Addresses of the 21 locations are listed below.

Four generations of the Bosselman family have been in the fuel business and the Pump & Pantry brand dates to 1971.

This move allows us to put more focus on our core business of operating retail grocery stores as well as convenience stores that are adjacent to our existing Hy-Vee stores. Once the transition is complete, we will continue operating 168 convenience stores and have plans to build more Hy-Vee stores in 2027 and beyond.”
Pump & Pantry currently operates 48 convenience stores across Nebraska, offering customers fuel, groceries, snacks, fountain drinks, coffee, pastries, ice cream, and quality grab-and-go food made fresh daily, in addition to licensed food offerings like Quiznos, and Cinnabon.
Pump & Pantry has also invested in pumps to dispense higher ethanol blends like E15 and E85 at many of its locations while also expanding biodiesel sales. Chief Operating Officer Randy Gard currently serves on the Nebraska Ethanol Board.
Gard recently said retailers like Pump & Pantry are focused on what customers want, and he argued E15 often delivers a lower-cost option than standard E10 gasoline.
“It’s a big advantage. I’s we’re one of the few industries where we’re crazy enough to put our price sign on a 40 or 60 foot sign and so consumers that we’ve learned will turn left or right for a penny. So when you’re five, ten, in some cases 15 cents cheaper on your higher blended, gasoline products, they’ll consumers will run to those,” Gard told the Rural Radio Network in May.
Following the close of the purchase agreement, these 21 Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh locations will be rebranded as Pump & Pantry stores and will continue to offer Hy-Vee Fuel Saver redemptions. Customers of these locations can also look forward to the Pump & Pantry rewards platform, Pumped Up Rewards.
At the conclusion of this acquisition, Pump & Pantry will operate 69 convenience stores in three states. In addition, Pump & Pantry is excited to expand Hy-Vee Fuel Saver redemption to all 69 of its locations in the coming months.
No other Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh locations will be affected as a result of this purchase. Current Hy-Vee Fast & Fresh employees at these 21 standalone locations will have the opportunity to transition employment with Pump & Pantry. In addition, Bosselman staff will host hiring fairs at select locations.
