Free Fishing and Park Entry Day returns this Saturday, giving Nebraskans a chance to enjoy the outdoors without needing a fishing or park entry permit. The annual event, held the Saturday before Memorial Day weekend, allows anyone to fish and visit Nebraska state parks, state recreation areas and state historical parks at no cost for the day, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
State parks across Nebraska are hosting scheduled activities including fishing tournaments, living history programs and educational events. Popular day‑use activities include fishing, hiking, kayaking, picnicking, grilling, playground use, beach visits and relaxation. Anglers must still follow all fishing regulations, and camping, lodging and other user fees remain in effect, along with museum entrance fees at state historical parks and the Schramm Education Center.
It’s also a great chance to get more stops in during Your Parks Adventure: Trail Trek, a free program highlighting historical trails statewide, in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.
