Nationwide, year-round E15 is a step closer to the finish line as the House of Representatives passed Rep. Adrian Smith’s legislation.
“It’s a great relief,” said corn grower Jan tenBensel, who serves on the National Corn Growers Association board. “Congressman Smith has been an absolute champion.”
Smith call it a historic win.
“For over a decade, I have championed nationwide, year-round E15 to end years of patchwork regulations and expand much-needed market access for Nebraska’s biofuels producers. While I am grateful for the bipartisan support of my colleagues today, I know there is still more work to do. I urge the Senate to take up this bill and send it to President Trump’s desk so he can sign it into law and make nationwide, year-round E15 a reality once and for all,” Smith said in a statement.
“We have a huge coalition,” tenBensel said, said of the momentum on the issue.
Sen. Deb Fischer also praised the House vote.
“Though long overdue, this is a major step toward securing stability and certainty for American producers and consumers – without any government mandates. I commend my fellow Nebraskans, Reps. Adrian Smith, Mike Flood, and Don Bacon for their hard work and persistence in getting this bill passed,” she said in a statement.
She said she will work to get the bill on the president’s desk, and farmers like tenBensel say they will be fighting for it too.
“The job’s not done. When you’re at home, make sure you choose E15. Choose retailers that support you because the farm you save by doing so might be your own,” tenBensel said.
