Cruising with Renewable Fuels is presented by the Nebraska Soybean Board
A Nebraska farmer says a state biodiesel incentive program is helping producers offset fuel costs while increasing the use of renewable fuels during planting season.
Blake Johnson, who farms near Holdrege and serves on the Nebraska Soybean Board, discussed the state’s biodiesel tax credit program as Nebraska marks Renewable Fuels Month.
“The Nebraska Soybean Board is funding… the on farm biodiesel credit program,” Johnson said, explaining that producers can receive refunds tied to biodiesel blends purchased for farm use.
Under the program, farmers can receive 25 cents per gallon for B5 to B19 blends and 50 cents per gallon for B20 or higher blends, up to $500 annually.
Johnson said the process is straightforward.
“You need to be asking your fuel supplier if they can offer you a biodiesel blend,” adding that receipts can be submitted online for reimbursement.
He said his own operation has used biodiesel blends for about three years across equipment including semis, tractors and irrigation motors.
“We’ve implemented biodiesel into our operation three years ago,” Johnson said, noting the transition has gone smoothly and aligns with his view of supporting farm-grown energy sources.
Johnson also pointed to recent fuel price increases as a reason producers may want to consider the program, saying biodiesel use can help offset rising costs while supporting rural demand for ag-based fuels.
