LINCOLN, Neb. — A standout weekend from Carli Hawkins highlighted a strong showing for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Rodeo Team as it hosted its annual home rodeo, earning top regional honors and sending one athlete on to the national stage.
Hawkins delivered one of the most complete performances of the weekend, winning breakaway roping and goat tying while also claiming the women’s all-around title on her home dirt.
Hawkins secured her spot in Casper, Wyoming, qualifying individually. She finished the regular season third in the women’s all-around standings and second in goat tying to earn a trip to the CNFR, where she will compete among the nation’s top collegiate rodeo athletes.
The weekend carried added significance for the program, as Nebraska was named Regional Rodeo of the Year, recognizing the work of student-athletes, coaches and volunteers in hosting the event.
Several other Huskers turned in competitive seasons but finished just outside the qualifying cutoff. Jadon Skavdahl placed fifth in saddle bronc riding for the season, while Cooper Philipps finished eighth in tie-down roping.
Across the region, Mid-Plains Community College Rodeo Team claimed the men’s team title, continuing its dominance in the Great Plains Region, while other Nebraska programs, including Southeast Community College Rodeo Team, placed multiple athletes among the top finishers in individual events.
